Key Takeaways
Jaipur, Feb 21 (NationPress) Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma delivered a pointed critique of the Congress during a tumultuous session in the Assembly on Saturday, accusing the opposition of shying away from debate and lacking the courage to confront the truth.
“The members of Congress do not wish to hear the truth, which is why they vacated the House. I arrived fully equipped with documents. They issued a challenge to us, and we rose to meet it,” the Chief Minister stated in response to the heated argument regarding the debate on two years versus five years of governance.
Sharma asserted that his administration has executed 285 out of 352 resolutions approved in 2023 within merely two years, contrasting it with what he labeled the Congress’s “zero performance.”
“Their record of achievement is nonexistent. What do they intend to debate? Had they been diligent, they wouldn’t have vanished. All they managed was corruption and appeasement,” he remarked.
He noted that if the former Chief Minister had participated in the debate, the distinction between two years and five years would have been evident to all.
In response to the Congress’s boycott, Sharma mentioned that he had submitted comprehensive documentation to the Assembly.
“I have much to say, and I am presenting everything. The Congress members lacked the courage to face the truth, so they abandoned the floor,” he commented.
After his remarks, the Assembly was adjourned until Monday. The Chief Minister also used a metaphor to illustrate his governance philosophy: “I have never shortened the line. We draw a longer line,” indicating progress and expansion in governance.
Sharma accused Congress State President Govind Singh Dotasra of intentionally causing chaos to hinder Leader of the Opposition Tikaram Jully from addressing the Assembly.
“Dotasra aimed to prevent Jully from speaking, hence the disturbance. Congress leaders are at odds with one another. Someone else is aspiring to be the Leader of the Opposition,” he claimed.
He added that the opposition would not succeed in silencing him, “They lack that much power.”
The uproar commenced after Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel suggested discussing the government’s two-year performance report, instead of a comparative debate on two years versus five years, which the opposition argued had been agreed upon in the Business Advisory Committee (BAC).
Congress leaders contended that the Chief Minister had earlier promised a comparative debate, deeming the motion an insult to his previous statement.
Earlier in the session, Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) MLAs raised slogans, donned protest T-shirts, and called for a CBI investigation into paper leaks and recruitment exam irregularities.
Posters were waved in the House, further escalating the disruption.
BJP MLA Shatrughan Gautam accused the previous Congress government of a Rs 400 crore scam involving the improper allocation of grazing land, alleging that land designated for displaced villagers was transferred to favored individuals.
The chaos in the Assembly showcased a profound political confrontation, with the ruling BJP accusing the Congress of evasion and mismanagement, while the opposition questioned the government’s accountability and transparency.
