New Delhi, Oct 7 (NationPress) Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury condemned the assault on BJP leaders in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, labeling the incident as an "injustice" and expressing disappointment with the police's inaction. On Monday, BJP Maldaha Uttar MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh were violently attacked by a mob while attempting to assist residents affected by recent landslides and distribute relief materials.
While Ghosh sustained minor injuries, Murmu faced severe injuries to his face and head.
In a statement to IANS, Chowdhury remarked, "This is an injustice. Political workers should be free to visit any area. Many are suffering from the floods, and the community is living in distress. Members of any party, including the BJP, Congress, Trinamool Congress, Left, or Muslim League, should be able to go anywhere without fear. Attacks and violence are unacceptable, and seeing people injured is a serious issue."
He further criticized the ruling Trinamool Congress government, stating, "This is the reality in Bengal. When members of the ruling party do wrong, the police remain silent. PM Modi and the West Bengal Chief Minister exchange blame right before elections."
The Congress leader expressed confidence in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, declaring, "Change is on the horizon."
Chowdhury emphasized that following Rahul Gandhi's Voter Adhikar Yatra, the endeavors by Rahul Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav, and other opposition leaders are garnering support from the public.
He noted that the efforts for change by the opposition parties are underway and the general populace is backing the alliance.
"In the lead-up to the elections, we have established strong coordination among the constituent parties. We are prepared for the elections, and it seems that change is imminent in Bihar this time," Chowdhury concluded.
