  • State government's taxation policies: Rising cess and tariffs affecting citizens.
  • Startup growth: From 1,000 to 160,000 under BJP.
  • Domestic manufacturing: 98% of mobile phones produced in India.
  • Defense exports: Increased from $686 crore to $23,622 crore.

Shimla, Sep 27 (NationPress) The President of BJP in Himachal Pradesh, Rajiv Bindal, asserted on Saturday that while the Central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is focused on providing relief to citizens, the Congress-led state administration has been a source of distress for residents over the past three years.

He highlighted that during the tenure of Congress in the state, 10 different types of cess have been levied on the populace.

“Since the current government took office, it has raised VAT on diesel by Rs 7.50, imposing an additional burden of Rs 10,000 crore on the average citizen. The tax on cement has escalated from Rs 7.50 to Rs 16.

“Water tariffs have surged dramatically, stamp duty has been increased, rural water bills are now charged at Rs 100 monthly, electricity rates have spiked by 46%, and a fee of Rs 10 has been introduced for hospital prescriptions. In contrast, the Modi administration has implemented significant reforms in GST, delivering a relief package worth Rs 2 lakh crore to the public,” remarked former Cabinet minister Bindal.

He praised Prime Minister Modi, stating that the vision of a self-reliant India and Swadeshi remains central to the Prime Minister's agenda.

In comparing the Congress and BJP, he noted that in 2014, India had 1,000 startups. Currently, the number has surged to 160,000, with each startup creating jobs for approximately 40 individuals. Moreover, previously, 98% of mobile phones were imported, but now, 98% are manufactured domestically, including the iPhone. In the defence sector, exports have soared from $686 crore to $23,622 crore. Under PM Modi, India has emerged as a $7.3 trillion economy, ranking fourth globally.

“Currently, India is witnessing exceptional progress in areas such as destination weddings, tourism, Bharat Darshan, Sanskrit heritage, yoga, and astronomy. This progress is achievable because Prime Minister Modi not only articulates his vision but also effectively puts ideas into action. The transformative influence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to resonate across the country,” concluded the state BJP chief.

Point of View

The claims made by Rajiv Bindal reflect a common sentiment among opposition parties regarding state governance. The juxtaposition of the central government's relief efforts against state-level taxation policies raises questions about the efficacy and priorities of local leadership. With an ongoing focus on economic growth and development, it's essential to critically evaluate how each government is meeting the needs of its constituents.
