New Delhi, March 19 (NationPress) The Congress party announced another set of candidates for the forthcoming Assam Assembly elections on Thursday, unveiling 22 nominees for critical constituencies across the state.
As per an official announcement from the All India Congress Committee (AICC), the Central Election Committee has ratified candidates for various seats in Lower Assam, Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Upper Assam, and Barak Valley.
Among the notable names in this latest list are Manik Ch. Brahma from Kokrajhar (ST), Sapali Marak from Baokhungri, Md Ashraful Islam Sheikh from Parbatjhora, and Baby Begum from Dhubri. Additionally, Aftab Uddin Mollah will contest from Jaleswar, and Pradip Sarkar has been nominated from Abhayapuri.
In the BTR area, the Congress party has put forward Matilal Narzary from Sidli (ST), Jagadish Madahi from Baksa (ST), Rafie Daimary from Tamulpur (ST), and Soren Daimari from Udalguri (ST), indicating its strategy to strengthen its presence in tribal-majority areas.
Candidates from Upper Assam include Asif Mohamad Nazar (Laharighat), Durlav Chamua (Nagaon-Batadraba), Sunil Chetry (Nadua), Joyonto Khaund (Rongonadi), Ghana Buragohain (Lakhimpur), and Ananda Narah (Dhakuakhana-ST). Sibanath Chetia has been selected from Makum, while Roselina Tirkey will contest from Khumtai.
In the hill and Barak Valley regions, Sanjeeb Teron is set to run from Howraghat (ST), and Zubair Anam Mazumder will compete from Algapur-Katlicherra.
This announcement is part of the party's ongoing rollout of candidates, following the previous release of two lists that included a blend of incumbent leaders, fresh contenders, and representatives from various communities.
