New Delhi, Jan 20 (NationPress) The Congress party criticized the BJP on Monday following the filing of an FIR against Congress MP and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, in Assam due to his remarks about the Indian state.
Congress spokesperson Abhay Dubey accused the BJP of being afraid of Rahul Gandhi, resorting to such actions as a means of intimidation.
The FIR, lodged in Guwahati, Assam's largest city which is ruled by the BJP, is related to Gandhi's recent statements and cites sections 152 and 197(1)(d) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertain to actions threatening India's sovereignty, unity, and integrity.
The complaint was submitted by Monjit Chetia, who claimed that the Congress leader has crossed the limits of free speech.
In response to the situation, Dubey stated to IANS, "The BJP is so fearful of Rahul Gandhi that it has resorted to filing an FIR against him. Nevertheless, no BJP-led state can undermine Rahul Gandhi's determination and commitment towards his objectives."
Chetia's complaint alleged that Gandhi's comments represent a serious threat to public order and national security.
The FIR is a result of a statement made by Gandhi during the inauguration of the Congress' new headquarters in Delhi.
In response to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat's remarks regarding India's "true independence," Gandhi stated, "Do not assume this is a fair fight. If you think it’s merely against a political entity like the BJP or RSS, realize that they have seized nearly every institution in our nation. We are now confronting the Indian state itself."
Gandhi's recent travels to various states have attracted political attention. While in Patna, he spoke at the 'Samvidhan Suraksha Sammelan' and met with RJD leader Lalu Yadav and his son, Tejashwi Yadav.
However, rumors about tensions within the INDIA bloc have arisen as Gandhi allegedly avoided meeting Mamata Banerjee during his trip to West Bengal and skipped a meeting with Akhilesh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing these speculations, Dubey rejected the assertions, remarking, "The BJP is disseminating unfounded rumors. Even if Rahul Gandhi pays a private visit to Lalu Yadav, the BJP finds an issue with it."
"Regarding the INDIA bloc, its leaders convene on a single platform whenever a formal meeting is organized," Dubey clarified.
