Guwahati, Jan 19 (NationPress) An FIR has been lodged against Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for his statement regarding 'fighting against the Indian state'.

This First Information Report (FIR) has been filed at the Pan Bazar Police Station in Guwahati under sections 152 and 197(1)d of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which relate to actions threatening the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India.

The complaint was lodged by Monjit Chetia, who accused the Leader of the Opposition of crossing the limits of acceptable free speech.

According to Chetia, Gandhi's statements allegedly represent a major risk to public order and national security.

Chetia stated: "By asserting that his struggle is against the ‘Indian state’, the accused has deliberately incited subversive activities and rebellion among the people. This is an effort to undermine the state's authority and depict it as an adversarial entity, thereby fostering a perilous discourse that could incite unrest and separatist sentiments."

Chetia further claimed that the Congress leader is deeply frustrated after a series of electoral defeats.

"Having failed to win public trust through democratic avenues, the accused now aims to stir discontent against the Central government and the Indian state. This is especially concerning given his role as the Leader of the Opposition, which carries the duty to uphold public faith in democratic institutions. Rather, the accused has opted to misuse his platform to disseminate falsehoods and incite rebellion, jeopardizing the unity and sovereignty of India," the complaint stated.

The uproar stemmed from Rahul Gandhi's comments during the inauguration of the Congress party's new headquarters in Delhi. In his speech, Gandhi launched a fierce critique of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the BJP, accusing them of systematically seizing control over India's institutions.

"Do not assume we are engaged in a fair fight. If you think this is merely against a political organization like the BJP or RSS, recognize that they have taken over nearly every institution in our nation. We are now contending with the Indian state itself," Rahul Gandhi declared at the event.
