New Delhi, April 13 (NationPress) CPI(M) leader Hannan Mollah launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday, accusing her administration of a complete collapse of law and order amid the recent violence in Murshidabad and the police's heavy-handed response to teachers' protests.

Speaking to IANS, Mollah referred to the unrest during demonstrations against the Waqf Act in Murshidabad, stating, "Protests regarding the new amendment bill of the Waqf Board are occurring in various parts of the country, yet the protests have escalated into violence in this region. It is the duty of the Mamata Banerjee government to prevent such violence."

He added, "There is virtually no law and order maintained by the Mamata government; bloodshed is rampant, women are facing assaults, and police are resorting to lathi charges against civilians."

Mollah condemned the Murshidabad incidents, which resulted in three fatalities and multiple injuries among police personnel, labeling it as "highly condemnable" and asserting that the state government could have intervened to avert the situation.

"Perhaps that is why the court has mandated the deployment of paramilitary forces to restore order," he remarked, criticizing the government's actions.

He claimed, "West Bengal has experienced a persistent decline in law and order throughout Mamata Banerjee's time in office. There are daily instances of bloodshed and riots," he claimed.

On the matter of police treatment towards protesting school staff, Mollah denounced the forceful measures taken against educators and non-teaching personnel whose jobs were recently cut following a Supreme Court ruling.

The protest, which turned aggressive last Wednesday, resulted in injuries among participants struck by police batons, including footage of a police officer, Das, allegedly kicking a protester.

"The police are physically assaulting teachers, humiliating them. The situation should have been managed differently. It is Mamata Banerjee's duty to address this appropriately. We advocate for peaceful protests. If they escalate into violence, the government seizes the chance to act," Mollah stated.

"While protests should remain peaceful, Mamata Banerjee is merely attempting to mask her inadequacies and failures," he concluded.
