New Delhi, April 24 (NationPress) The Congress Working Committee convened on Thursday to deliberate on the recent Pahalgam terror attack, declaring in a resolution that the perpetrators specifically targeted Hindus to incite tensions within the nation.
“This intentional targeting of Hindus was aimed at inflaming sentiments throughout the country. We urge for serenity amid this significant provocation and reaffirm our united strength in the face of challenges,” the CWC stated in its resolution.
The CWC conveyed its profound shock and condemnation regarding the horrific terrorist assault in Pahalgam on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 innocent tourists and left over 20 others severely injured.
Blaming Pakistan for the attack, the CWC asserted, “This cowardly and premeditated act of terror, orchestrated by Pakistan, represents a direct attack on the principles of our Republic. The CWC calls for tranquility and reiterates the Indian National Congress' enduring commitment to combat cross-border terrorism with resolve and unity.”
Furthermore, it demanded a comprehensive investigation into the intelligence and security shortcomings that permitted the tragic massacre of tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.
“These failures must be scrutinized in the public interest. Only then can justice truly be served for the victims and their families,” the CWC articulated in its statement.
The CWC also honored local pony handlers and tourist guides, one of whom lost their life while attempting to safeguard tourists. “Their selfless actions,” the party remarked, “embody the enduring spirit of India.”
Additionally, the CWC expressed concerns regarding the imminent Amarnath Yatra, which attracts millions of pilgrims from across the nation. It urged the government to implement robust, transparent, and proactive security measures without delay to ensure the safety of both pilgrims and the tourism-dependent local populace.
While recognizing the widespread denouncement of the massacre from various political entities and civil society in Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress criticized the BJP for allegedly leveraging the tragedy to foster division. “It is profoundly troubling that the BJP, through its official and proxy social media channels, is exploiting this national tragedy to create discord and polarization—at a moment when unity is paramount,” the party stated.
