The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will host a two-day World Tourism Day celebration on 26 and 27 September at Baansera, its bamboo-themed public space along the Yamuna at Sarai Kale Khan, an official confirmed on Thursday. The event is part of Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu's broader drive to position Delhi as a sustainable tourism and socio-cultural destination.

What the Celebration Covers

The two-day festival will spotlight the diversity of India's tourism, art, craft, cuisine, music and culture through six specially curated thematic zones: Hunar Gali, Yaadon Ki Gali, Bachpan Ki Dukaan, Chitthi Ghar, Bharat Ke Zaayeke, and Masti Ka Adda. Together, these zones promise a blend of traditional crafts, regional cuisines, nostalgia-driven experiences and participative activities for visitors of all ages.

Folk and regional cultural performances, magic shows and live music will run through both days, building a festive atmosphere at the riverside venue.

Grand Finale: Nizami Brothers Qawwali on September 27

The celebration will culminate on the evening of 27 September with a live Qawwali performance by the Nizami Brothers. The DDA has partnered with ticketing platform BookMyShow for the show, indicating a ticketed, capacity-managed event format — a step up from the authority's earlier open-entry gatherings at the venue.

Baansera's Growing Cultural Footprint

Baansera has steadily evolved from a recreational green space into one of Delhi's more distinctive event venues. The bamboo-themed park has previously hosted three editions of the International Kite Festival, drawing national and international kite artists alongside large-scale public participation. It has also been the venue for Rangratri, a Garba and Dandiya celebration that fused traditional music and dance with the park's unique bamboo landscape.

The authority has consistently underlined Baansera's role in connecting Delhi residents with the Yamuna riverfront — a priority explicitly championed by Lieutenant Governor Sandhu. Officials say events of this scale are intended to build a sense of ownership among Delhiites toward their river.
