New Delhi, Oct 7 (NationPress) The weather in the national capital experienced a significant shift on Tuesday as intense rainfall and strong winds affected various regions of Delhi and its surroundings. While the downpour offered a break from the persistent heat, it also led to disruptions in flight operations.
Starting early in the morning, intermittent showers persisted throughout the day. Following a brief pause in the afternoon, dark clouds returned, unleashing a heavy downpour along with strong winds in numerous areas, including central and south Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had previously forecasted rain for the day and issued both yellow and orange alerts, warning residents of moderate rainfall accompanied by light thunderstorms and lightning in the vicinity.
According to the IMD, the western disturbance is likely to cause substantial rainfall across Northwest India on Tuesday.
“Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (reaching speeds of 30-50 kmph) is expected over Northwest India on 07th October,” it stated.
This abrupt weather change resulted in traffic congestion and waterlogging in numerous low-lying areas, causing a noticeable drop in temperatures.
Authorities at Delhi Airport issued a statement indicating that flight operations might be disrupted due to the adverse weather.
“Due to unfavorable weather conditions in Delhi, flight operations at Delhi Airport are likely to be affected. Our ground teams are collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure a smooth and efficient passenger experience,” said the Delhi airport.
Passengers have been urged to verify updated flight information with their respective airlines and consider utilizing the Delhi Metro to reach the airport, avoiding potential delays on the roads.
Additionally, the IMD noted that conditions are favorable for the further retreat of the southwest monsoon from the remaining areas of Gujarat, parts of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and several regions in Maharashtra over the next 3-4 days.
