Delhi Police will receive 17 service honours on Independence Day 2026, with two President's Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM) and 15 Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM) awarded to officers and personnel spanning four decades of combined policing. The announcement was made on 14 August 2026, recognising contributions across operations, administration, technology, crime investigation, and public service.

President's Medal Recipients

Dinesh Kumar Gupta, IPS and Additional Commissioner of Police, is among the two officers conferred the President's Medal for Distinguished Service. A 2010-batch AGMUT cadre officer, Gupta has held roles as Assistant Commissioner of Police across multiple subdivisions and as Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police in Railway, IGI Airport, Traffic, Recruitment Cell, and Shahdara District. He also served in Arunachal Pradesh, addressing local policing challenges. In his current role as Additional CP/Traffic, he has managed traffic during major public events, religious congregations, Parliamentary sessions, and national ceremonies. He had previously received the MSM in 2018.

The second PSM recipient, Sub-Inspector (Executive) Rajesh Kumar, joined Delhi Police as a Constable in 1988 and has rendered nearly four decades of service. He played a pivotal role in establishing and maintaining the Quarter Allotment Cell website from its inception in 2010, bringing transparency to government accommodation processes. He also served as nodal officer for the Directorate of Estates and handled key administrative duties at Rohini District. Kumar had earlier received the MSM in 2005.

Key MSM Awardees

Surender Kumar, IPS and Joint Commissioner of Police, is honoured for pioneering technology-driven policing. He introduced the e-Beat Book in Delhi Police and contributed to e-Beat Book 2.0, e-FRRO, cyber-fraud e-FIR integration, and upgrades to criminal databases. He has also been involved in extradition operations and implementation of new criminal laws.

Nupur Prasad, IPS and Joint Commissioner of Police, is recognised for leadership across policing, investigation, and public-oriented initiatives. Notably, she was the first DCP of Shahdara, where she established the district's policing framework and acted against drug networks and organised crime. Her career has also spanned the Central Bureau of Investigation, Arunachal Pradesh, and West Bengal. She has championed women's self-defence, youth development, cyber safety, and drug de-addiction programmes.

Other MSM recipients include Inspector Rakesh Kumar Bhatt for scientific investigation and immigration work; Inspector Tara Dutt for exceptional administrative and stenographic service; and ASI Kailash Chand for 36 years of dedicated service.

Operational and Investigative Honours

Woman ASI Anjana Kumari is recognised for participation in operations against terrorists, gangsters, and serious offenders. ASI Satish Patil contributed to major criminal investigations, including the arrest of a wanted terrorist. ASI Anand Ballabh was noted for solving challenging cases and effective public dealings.

The remaining awardees — ASI Pradeep Kumar Sharma, W/ASI Bindu, W/ASI Dinesh Kumari, W/HC Lalita, W/HC Sharmila, W/HC Pushpa Rani, and Head Constable Vijay Singh — have been recognised for contributions spanning law and order, public assistance, digital processes, record management, and security duties.

Broader Significance

The awards reflect Delhi Police's expanding mandate — from conventional law enforcement to technology integration and community outreach. This comes amid a broader national push to modernise policing through digital tools, with several awardees directly linked to initiatives that have reshaped internal processes. The formal conferral of medals will coincide with Independence Day celebrations on 15 August 2026.
