New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) – The Delhi Police have successfully dismantled a notorious 'Thak-Thak' gang linked to various theft incidents, apprehending one suspect in less than 48 hours. During the operation, authorities recovered stolen gold and diamond jewelry, foreign currency, important documents, and a scooty utilized in the commission of these crimes.

As per the official statement from the South-West District Police, the arrest was executed by the team at Police Post Subroto Park, under the jurisdiction of Delhi Cantt Police Station. The suspect, identified as Kunal, aged 24, hails from Madangir, Dr. Ambedkar Nagar, Delhi, and has a history of involvement in eight theft cases as well as Arms Act violations. Law enforcement officials confirmed that several stolen items were recovered based on his information, establishing his connection to multiple thefts.

The press release highlighted, “The Thak-Thak gang has been dismantled within 48 hours with full recovery.” It further noted, “One active thief has been arrested by the personnel of PP Subroto Park, PS Delhi Cantt, South-West District.”

Authorities also reported that the suspect has prior involvement in eight theft and Arms Act cases. The recovered items included stolen gold and diamond jewelry, Canadian dollars, Indian currency, a mobile phone, a passport, a PR card, and the scooty used during the criminal activities.

With this arrest, police have resolved four theft cases. An FIR was filed on April 12 at Delhi Cantt Police Station following a complaint by Didar Singh about a bag theft from his taxi near Dhaula Kuan, Ring Road, adjacent to the foot overbridge.

According to the complaint, two unidentified individuals halted the vehicle under the pretense of asking for assistance or directions. When the victims slowed down, one of the accused allegedly snatched a bag from the vehicle, and both fled on a scooty. The bag contained gold jewelry, Canadian dollars, Indian currency, a mobile phone, and crucial documents.

A specialized team led by Inspector Shyoram Yadav, SHO of Delhi Cantt, alongside Sub Inspector Jasbir Malik, SI Manish Meena, Head Constable Sunil Kumar, HC Pawan Kumar, and Constable Gajanand Meena, was assembled under the oversight of ACP Delhi Cantt Anil Kumar. The team scrutinized CCTV footage from the Ring Road, Ridge Road, Todapur, and Inderpuri areas, employing technical analysis and local intelligence to identify and locate the suspect.

The press note elaborated on the modus operandi of the Thak-Thak gang, stating that “Thak-Thak gang refers to a group of offenders who create distractions (typically by tapping on the car window, producing a 'thak thak' sound) to divert the driver’s focus while another accomplice pilfers valuables from the vehicle.”

It further explained that the suspect and his accomplices would stop vehicles under the guise of seeking help, targeting victims when car windows were opened. They primarily operated in congested areas like Ring Road during traffic jams to escape quickly and avoided zones with CCTV coverage to minimize detection risks.

Officials have confirmed that four cases registered at the Police Station Delhi Cantt have been resolved due to this arrest, and further investigations are ongoing.
