Delhi Police Uncovers Cable Theft Syndicate Targeting Metro Blue Line

New Delhi, Dec 11 (NationPress) In the aftermath of a cable theft incident where approximately 140 metres of cable was pilfered from the Delhi Metro Blue Line between Kirti Nagar and Moti Nagar, resulting in substantial disruptions, the Delhi Police made significant progress by apprehending three individuals connected to the crime. Parts of the stolen cable have been recovered, as stated by the police on Wednesday.

During a press briefing, Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police, Vijay Singh, disclosed that roughly 60 CCTV cameras in the vicinity of the crime scene were meticulously examined.

“The surveillance footage captured a Tata Ace vehicle and an auto-rickshaw near the location. Following this clue, the police traced the vehicles back to Mustafabad. By reviewing an additional 500 CCTV cameras along the path from Kirti Nagar to Mustafabad and interrogating the driver of the Tata Ace, the police were able to identify the first suspect, Shahrukh, and take him into custody,” he shared.

Further questioning of Shahrukh led to the identification and arrest of a second suspect, Ramzan. Continued interrogation revealed the mastermind behind the operation, Rashid, who conducted reconnaissance of potential theft locations and orchestrated the operations, according to police reports.

“The investigation also identified another suspect, Junaid, who was subsequently arrested. However, two additional suspects, Masoom and Faizal, are still evading capture. Raids are in progress to apprehend them,” Vijay Singh stated.

The police noted that the gang operated with a structured approach, assigning specific roles to its members. While some engaged in reconnaissance, others were skilled in cutting the cables using specialized tools.

The stolen cables were weighed during transit to ascertain their value, with a receipt for the weighing process being recovered during the investigation.

The gang sold the stolen cables to a scrap dealer named Sarfaraz, who is currently on the run. Raids are ongoing to locate him.

The cable theft on December 5 caused extensive disruptions to Delhi Metro services on the Blue Line, particularly during the busy morning hours.

Commuters faced delays and inconvenience as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) communicated the issue to passengers via posts on X.

The DMRC assured travelers that repair work would be carried out during non-operational hours to restore normal services.
