Delhi Police Dismantle Interstate Auto Theft Ring, Five Arrested

New Delhi, Dec 2 (NationPress) The Delhi Police reported on Monday that they have successfully dismantled a network of auto-thieves in the Burari locality of north Delhi, apprehending five gang members, among whom are three minors. This operation has led to the resolution of no less than 58 vehicle theft cases.

In response to a rising number of motorcycle and auto theft complaints in Burari, the police initiated a focused operation. A specialized team was formed to investigate and apprehend the offenders.

The investigative team meticulously analyzed CCTV footage from 250 different sources, identifying six individuals involved in the thefts, with one suspect’s face clearly visible in the footage as he stole a motorcycle from a complainant.

“The investigators subsequently focused their efforts on Khajuri Chowk, Bhajanpura, mobilizing informants and circulating images of the suspects to gather intelligence on their whereabouts. This ultimately led to the identification of one suspect,” a police spokesperson stated, adding that this individual was apprehended and interrogated. He disclosed that two others residing in Khajuri Khas had been hiring them to steal two-wheelers from various locations across Delhi, paying them ₹1,000 for each motorcycle.

The police, accompanied by local staff from Loni Border Police Station, raided the warehouse of Md Farooq located at 100 Foot Road, near Tyagi Builder in Saraswati Vihar, Loni, Ghaziabad, uncovering 11 stolen motorcycles and numerous dismantled bike parts. During questioning, Md Farooq admitted to dealing in stolen vehicles for over a year.

According to the police, he had acquired approximately 300-350 two-wheelers in the past 5-6 months. Previously, he had purchased stolen motorcycles from other thieves, totaling around 200-250 bikes. He would then dismantle these vehicles for parts and sell them to customers.

Md Farooq was arrested, and all recovered motorcycles and parts were seized by the police. Both Md Farooq and Hasan Khan, another suspect, were taken into custody. During their interrogation, nine additional stolen vehicles were retrieved based on their information. Authorities are actively seeking to locate other accomplices and recover more stolen items.

When interrogated, Hasan Khan revealed that he was a drug addict. His addiction drove him to steal two-wheelers, often hiring minors to assist him in the thefts across Delhi. They would sell the stolen vehicles to Md Farooq, who hails from West Bengal and has been residing in Indirapuri, Loni for the past 8-10 years, where he works as an auto mechanic.
