New Delhi, Oct 11 (NationPress) A grand ex-servicemen (ESM) rally, titled ‘Devbhoomi Mega Veterans’, was conducted by Headquarters Uttarakhand Sub Area of the Indian Army on Saturday at Jaswant Singh Ground, located in Garhi Cantt, Dehradun. The event was marked by immense enthusiasm and patriotic spirit.

The rally was graced by the presence of notable dignitaries, including the Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd), and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, alongside various senior military officials.

In his keynote speech, the Governor paid heartfelt homage to the veterans, deeming them a “National Asset” and recognizing their invaluable contributions to the nation.

Addressing the recent natural disaster in Dharali, he expressed condolences and assured that the state government is fully committed to supporting the affected families.

The Governor praised the remarkable spirit and morale of the Indian Army, commending their collaboration with civil authorities that facilitated the rapid restoration of normalcy in the impacted regions. He voiced confidence that Uttarakhand will emerge stronger and more resilient to future disasters.

He also expressed deep gratitude towards the veterans from the Army, Navy, and Air Force in Uttarakhand, applauding their patriotism, bravery, and ongoing dedication to nation-building. He paid tribute to all martyrs who gave their lives for the country.

During the rally, the Governor acknowledged the commendable work of the War Wounded Foundation, led by Lieutenant General Asit Mistry (Retd) and Brigadier Harcharan Singh (Retd), particularly their initiative in providing motorized scooters to 14 disabled veterans.

He also honored 20 Veer Naris (war widows), expressing gratitude for their sacrifices. Congratulating the recipients of the Veterans Achievers Award, he encouraged them to persist in their efforts for the welfare of veterans and society.

He urged all veterans to actively contribute towards building a “Viksit Bharat”, serving as a beacon of inspiration for society.

In his address, CDS Anil Chauhan celebrated the vital role of veterans in nation-building.

He highlighted that Uttarakhand, revered as the “Land of the Brave”, has consistently brought pride to the nation through the valor and courage of its soldiers in every conflict and challenge.

He underscored that the Indian Armed Forces are rapidly embracing modern warfare techniques and advanced technologies. While emphasizing India’s commitment to peace, he stated, “Though we are a peace-loving nation, we will never tolerate any threat to our sovereignty.”

More than 5,000 veterans attended the rally, which included a job fair featuring 21 companies, awareness stalls for banking and government schemes, and free medical camps for the benefit of ex-servicemen and their families.
