Deve Gowda Accuses Siddaramaiah of Failing Social Justice
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, April 11 (NationPress) Former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda criticized Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, asserting that he does not truly advocate for social justice.
During his speech at the Greater Bengaluru JDS convention, the 93-year-old leader stated that Siddaramaiah often uses the discourse of social justice mainly for political advantage.
He urged the Chief Minister to reflect and examine his actual dedication to these values, accusing him of selectively employing the notion for political benefits.
Recalling earlier political events, Deve Gowda pointed out that certain AHINDA leaders contributed to the downfall of Kumaraswamy’s administration and attempted to undermine the JDS.
In light of such situations, he confirmed that the choice to ally with the BJP was made with his consent.
He mentioned that Union Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy (his son) is currently fulfilling his duties as a Union Minister effectively, yet criticized the State Government for its lack of cooperation, citing issues related to Kudremukh and HMT.
He stressed that matters relevant to the State's welfare should not be politicized, reaffirming that Kumaraswamy is continuing his work diligently.
He also highlighted the strength of the NDA coalition in Bihar, where PM Modi has bolstered Nitish Kumar's leadership, fostering governance based on trust and stability.
Conversely, he criticized the Congress's treatment of JDS, stating it has diminished trust, prompting JDS to join the NDA.
Referring to the ‘Daridra Narayana’ rally, Deve Gowda condemned the Chief Minister's absence at a significant event meant to support a Muslim candidate, claiming such actions raise serious doubts about his commitment to social justice.
He indicated that Siddaramaiah only showed up towards the end of the event, which he argued demonstrated a lack of seriousness regarding the issue.
In a sharply critical remark, Deve Gowda labeled the current State Government as the most disappointing he has encountered in his six decades in politics.
He asserted that public discontent is rising and that citizens are waiting for the chance to respond appropriately.
Moreover, he stated that the JDS is fully equipped for the upcoming elections, having appointed coordinators across five divisions in Bengaluru city, and expressed confidence in the party’s organizational capacity.
Highlighting JDS’s contributions, he emphasized that the party has been a proponent of women’s reservation, recalling how he initiated discussions in Parliament during his time as Prime Minister.
While the proposal did not come to fruition at that moment, he noted it has now been realized under PM Modi’s leadership.
He also welcomed the decision to hold a special session of Parliament to further discuss women’s reservation.
In closing, Deve Gowda reaffirmed his dedication to bolstering the party, stating he is willing to travel throughout the State to mobilize leaders and workers.
He called for unity within the party and expressed conviction that collective efforts will enhance its prospects in the State.
