Ahmedabad, June 24 (NationPress) As the Adani Group strives to enhance the unique features of Dharavi, aiming to construct an exceptional district for its residents and reimagine the core of Mumbai, Group Chairman Gautam Adani announced on Tuesday that their most groundbreaking initiative is currently taking shape in Dharavi.
The Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) represents a remarkable chance to elevate the living standards and 'live-work' environments of the local community, targeting an improved quality of life through superior infrastructure and public services.
“Asia’s largest slum is being redefined as India’s most ambitious urban rehabilitation endeavor,” Gautam Adani remarked during the 33rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL).
“Our Dharavi Social Mission is empowering the youth via training, healthcare, and job opportunities. More than one million individuals will transition from cramped alleyways to a township designed with spacious layouts, dual toilets, open areas, educational institutions, medical facilities, transit hubs, and parks,” he highlighted.
The Dharavi Master Plan is anchored by three core principles: fostering economic transformation through redevelopment, promoting ecological resilience and infrastructure, and establishing a fair and inclusive Dharavi.
Additionally, a connected web of green and public spaces—ranging from expansive city parks to intimate community play areas—will guarantee that every resident enjoys vibrant, walkable environments. This network aims to boost ecological durability and improve daily life quality in Dharavi.
A substantial public recreational space is proposed for the center of Dharavi, designed to meet the leisure needs of local residents and the broader Mumbai community, allowing both Dharavi and Mumbai inhabitants to unite for celebrations and festivals.
Dharavi will evolve into a highly transit-oriented area with integrated multi-modal connectivity, including a new metro line traversing its center. Bus feeder systems, dedicated infrastructure for non-motorized transport, and a detailed street grid will enhance last-mile access and encourage walkability in every neighborhood.
At the nucleus of Dharavi, a Multi-Modal Transit Hub (MMTH) is envisioned, providing the first-ever facility where inter-city, intra-city, suburban, Metro, high-speed, and airport express trains can be accessed, alongside city buses and other local transport—all from a single location.
