New Delhi, May 26 (NationPress) Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Robin Uthappa stated that the legendary MS Dhoni of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) still has the desire to play for the team, with a persistent passion to secure another championship title for the franchise.
Despite CSK concluding their IPL 2025 season with a strong victory in their final league match, the 43-year-old Dhoni faced challenges in recapturing his former glory. He scored only 196 runs across 14 matches at an average of 24.50, with a strike rate of 135.17, which was a notable decline from the explosive 220.55 he achieved in the prior season.
“His future hinges on his health and personal feelings. It's evident that he deeply wants to continue playing—the passion to win championships remains alive. From his remarks during the post-match presentation, it's clear he is eager to compete again. The next step is to focus on his fitness to reach the level he desires for the next IPL. If that fails to materialize, he will announce his decision before the mini-auction. If not, we may see a tweet or an Instagram update,” Uthappa commented on JioStar.
Following the victory over the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on Sunday, Dhoni upheld his tradition of leaving his participation for the next season uncertain. The wicketkeeper-batter has left fans in suspense regarding his return for the IPL 2026 season.
“I have 4-5 months to make a decision, and there's no rush. It's crucial to maintain my fitness. Players need to be at their peak performance. If cricketers start retiring based on their performance, many would hang up their boots by the age of 22. I plan to return to Ranchi and enjoy some bike rides. I'm neither confirming my retirement nor my comeback. I have the luxury of time to contemplate and decide,” Dhoni mentioned during the post-match discussion.
The season was certainly one to forget for the five-time champions, who found themselves at the bottom of the points table for the first time in their history. With only four victories, CSK is determined to leverage the momentum from their last match and aim for a return to their typical standards in 2026.
