Discontent Brews Among Voters in Deoli Constituency Over AAP's Broken Promises Ahead of Delhi Elections

New Delhi, Dec 21 (NationPress) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has revealed its candidates for all 70 assembly seats in the forthcoming Delhi Assembly elections. This time, the party has opted to replace numerous sitting MLAs, with particular attention on the Deoli Assembly constituency in South Delhi.
The current MLA Prakash Jarwal has been replaced by Prem Kumar Chauhan as the party's candidate for Deoli. IANS spoke to several residents in this constituency to gauge their sentiments regarding the impending elections and their experiences with the Delhi government's promises of free 200 units of electricity, water, and other services over the past five years.
Ram Lal, a local resident, expressed that the area is severely affected by water shortages.
“While Arvind Kejriwal makes public appearances, he only travels along the main road and avoids the narrow lanes of Deoli. The lanes are in disrepair, and Kejriwal has not delivered any significant improvements over the last five years. If he had, the water crisis in this constituency would have been addressed,” he stated.
Santosh, a local woman, highlighted the ongoing water issues and the hazardous state of broken roads.
“For clean water and household needs, residents have to purchase water externally. The Kejriwal administration has been misleading the public for the last decade. They claim to provide free electricity, yet residents receive exorbitant bills monthly. Additionally, they pay a water bill of Rs 70, but water supply is erratic. People are compelled to depend on private tankers. The promised Rs 2,100 for women is also a deceit, and they will likely retract it post-elections,” she commented.
Rajjo Devi recounted that water is supplied only once every 15 days, leaving residents dry for months.
She further elaborated: “People are forced to buy water from external sources. Although government tankers arrive, only larger households benefit. Arvind Kejriwal is making false claims regarding free electricity. In summer, the electricity bill can soar to Rs 5,000, and when people approach the electricity office for resolution, their concerns go unheard.”
Shakuntala mentioned that the constituency suffers from broken roads. The water crisis causes significant hardship, and cleanliness is also lacking; she added, “During the rainy season, it becomes a challenge to even step outside. The MLA only visits to solicit votes.”
She claimed that they have not seen the MLA in the past five years.
Nasima informed IANS that she resides in a rented home, and water is supplied only once every 10-15 days.
Surviving on a pension of Rs 2,000 is insufficient for her needs, and the water issue remains critical.
Baldev Joshi noted that the water problem in this constituency is a source of significant distress. Residents are compelled to rely on private tankers for their drinking and household water needs.
“In the past decade, both Kejriwal's government and the current MLA have failed to resolve this issue. The roads in Deoli's neighborhoods are in dire condition. Each time a road is laid, it deteriorates shortly after. The current MLA came here five years ago seeking votes, but since then, he has been absent,” he commented.
