Sewage Issues, Contaminated Water, and Poor Roads: The Challenges of Ambedkar Nagar Ahead of Delhi Elections

New Delhi, Dec 21 (NationPress) While the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is gearing up for the forthcoming Delhi Assembly elections by announcing its candidates for all 70 constituencies, the residents of Ambedkar Nagar are enduring a multitude of challenges, which they attribute to the alleged negligence of the AAP government over the past several years.

AAP's national convenor and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has once again placed his trust in the current MLA, Ajay Dutt, granting him the nomination for the Ambedkar Nagar seat. To gauge the sentiments of the local populace and assess the impact of the Delhi government's free services, IANS engaged with numerous residents of this area.

Girish Bhardwaj expressed serious concerns regarding the sewerage system in the colony.

"Complaints are lodged, but there is no action taken. Kejriwal only offers empty promises. He can never transform Delhi into a city like London or Paris. Residents stay awake all night waiting for water, which often does not arrive. Kejriwal's claims about free water are misleading. Contaminated water is what reaches our homes, and despite numerous complaints to the local MLA, the situation remains unchanged," Girish stated.

Sarita emphasized that the water supply is a significant issue, adding that when water is available, it is contaminated. Additionally, she noted the major inconvenience caused by the broken roads.

Shalini Gupta informed IANS that the water they receive is heavily contaminated, which poses health risks.

"Close to Rajiv Park, the sewer frequently overflows, leading to severe problems. The local MLA fails to address these concerns. Our trust in Kejriwal has diminished. His promise of Rs 2,100 for women is untrue. During the summer months, our electricity bills soar to around Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 8,000. For the past six months, the sewerage has not been cleaned in our colony, and the local MLA Ajay Dutt has not taken any action," she lamented.

Another resident highlighted that the sewer issue has been a source of significant distress. They have filed numerous complaints with the Khanpur government office, yet no resolution has been reached. The underground sewer line causes the water from the Jal Board to become dirty as well.

Lata, another resident, acknowledged that the sewer problem remains a major concern for them. "Water keeps intruding into our homes. One of my family members had surgery, exacerbating the situation. Although a cleaning vehicle arrives after complaints, the sewer overflows shortly after once again. Both the elderly and schoolchildren are facing significant hardships," she complained.

Suman Goyal shared that she has resided here for nine years. While the government has made some attempts to improve conditions, the water crisis continues. The cleaning of the sewer is non-existent, and she believes that the free services should be terminated as they have proven ineffective. Meera expressed her discontent, stating she doesn't desire any free services. The Delhi government is merely deceiving the public because, as of now, the government offers nothing for free.
