New Delhi, Jan 14 (NationPress) Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday mocked and criticized Kejriwal’s governance model in the capital while initiating a campaign to ‘unveil’ its empty and hollow promises of turning Delhi into a world-class city.

The Congress MP visited Delhi’s Rithala area to highlight the stark differences between the AAP government’s promises and the reality observed on the ground. Conducting a survey of a filthy area, filled with open drains and garbage, the Congress leader made several jibes at the AAP administration.

“Dekho, dilli dekho, yeh hai chamkati hui dilli. Paris jaisi dilli... sab jagah yahi haal hai” (Look at the city, this is Delhi, this is shining Delhi, the Delhi that resembles Paris), he could be heard saying on camera.

With the Delhi Assembly elections approaching, deteriorating roads, open sewers, and unsanitary drainage systems have emerged as significant electoral issues, with all parties capitalizing on this.

The Congress party also shared on X, “Arvind Kejriwal claimed to make Delhi shine like Paris. However, all his assertions turned out to be empty. Today, the residents of Delhi live amidst clogged sewers, overflowing drains, and substantial waste.”

Rahul’s renewed focus on the city’s poor and crumbling infrastructure and open sewers is a strategic move to expose the AAP government regarding its unfulfilled promises and to remind citizens of the extensive development initiatives undertaken during the Congress regime under former CM Sheila Dikshit.

“The promise of the Congress party is – we will restore a clean and cherished Delhi to the citizens of Delhi. We did it once, and we will do it again,” the party stated in its post on X.

The verbal exchange between AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and Congress leaders took a new turn after Rahul Gandhi joined the campaign trail, marking his first political rally in the Seelampuri area on February 13.

Rahul criticized the AAP government over issues such as inflation and neglect of Dalit and minority groups, accusing it of making false promises and disseminating misleading information.

In a swift response, Kejriwal remarked that he would refrain from commenting on Rahul’s statements despite the insults.

“His struggle is to preserve the Congress party; my struggle is to protect the country,” he posted on X.
