The event unfolded late on December 17, but the criminals' scheme was thwarted thanks to the doctor's quick thinking.
As reported in a complaint lodged at the City Police Station, esteemed physician Dr. Sajal Kumar was on his way home to Sadhna Puri from his clinic at approximately 10:20 PM when he was forcibly taken by four to five armed assailants.
Dr. Kumar recounted that the attackers violently shoved him into his car, seized control of the vehicle, and began to assault him and his driver.
The attackers were masked, brandishing firearms and making threats.
Dr. Kumar's assistant, Nitish, who was at the residence, witnessed the attack and tried to help.
Before he could respond effectively, the assailants overpowered him, dragged him into the house, held him hostage momentarily, and then fled the scene with Dr. Kumar.
As the car sped towards the Sheesh Mahal Hotel road via Municipal Chowk, Dr. Kumar seized a moment of opportunity near the hotel.
He leaped from the moving vehicle and dashed towards the hotel, attracting the attention of bystanders. The criminals, seeing the crowd, panicked and abandoned their pursuit.
During this chaotic escape, Dr. Kumar's driver and caretaker remained inside the vehicle.
The assailants, attempting to flee at high speed, crashed into an electric pole near the DM’s residence, resulting in extensive damage.
After the crash, they abandoned the car and escaped on foot, taking with them two of Dr. Kumar's mobile phones.
The driver suffered serious injuries in the incident.
In response to the situation, Additional SP Ram Pukar Singh, City Police Station SHO Sanjeev Kumar, and Bhagwan Bazar Police Station SHO Subhash Kumar arrived at the scene.
The Saran SSP confirmed the occurrence.
