Patna, June 26 (NationPress) A remarkable achievement was made by the police in Bihar's Muzaffarpur as they apprehended two notorious criminals following a fierce shootout on Thursday morning.
Senior Superintendent of Police Sushil Kumar announced the capture of Suraj Sahani and Neeraj Thakur, both hailing from Motihari in East Champaran district, who are implicated in over two dozen criminal incidents throughout North Bihar.
“These criminals have a long-standing record of serious offenses, including numerous robbery cases at CHCs across Muzaffarpur, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Samastipur, and surrounding districts,” SSP Kumar stated.
According to SSP Kumar, the pair had been initially detained and were en route to the district headquarters on Wednesday evening. However, in a surprising twist, the suspects escaped by overpowering the escorting officers in the vicinity of the Paro police station.
Reacting promptly, law enforcement notified all nearby stations via wireless communication. Utilizing intelligence tips, the criminals were located in Chitor village, where a police team cordoned off the area and initiated an operation.
“Upon noticing the police presence, the suspects opened fire at the law enforcement officers. In response, we also returned fire. Following an intense exchange of gunfire, both suspects were apprehended, sustaining bullet wounds to their legs during the clash,” the SSP reported, mentioning that they were taken into custody and given medical assistance.
Neeraj Thakur had a reward of Rs 30,000 on his head. Police officials branded him and Suraj Sahani as serial offenders linked to various robbery, theft, and dacoity incidents.
This arrest is hailed as a significant victory for the Muzaffarpur police, especially since both individuals were known for their agility and ability to evade capture.
“We have filed an FIR against these two criminals at the Paro police station for assaulting government personnel. We are also working to unravel their connections. Further arrests are expected following their interrogation,” Kumar added.
