Guwahati, March 27 (NationPress) Advocating strongly for the maintenance of a “double-engine” government in Assam, Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita stated on Friday that states without a “double-engine” government are missing out on crucial development and progress.

During a press conference organized by the BJP in the Titabar Assembly constituency located in Jorhat district, Assam, Margherita pointed out that various non-BJP-governed states, including Karnataka, Punjab, and West Bengal, are significantly behind in their development trajectories due to the lack of a “double-engine” government.

He emphasized that effective governance between the Centre and the state facilitates quicker execution of welfare initiatives, enhances infrastructure, and improves the provision of public services.

“A double-engine government propels development forward, ensuring that the advantages of central programs reach citizens seamlessly,” he noted.

Margherita showcased the accomplishments of the BJP-led administration in Assam, asserting that the state has made remarkable advancements in recent times across various sectors, such as connectivity, law enforcement, and social welfare.

Describing Assam as a “secure and rapidly advancing state” under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's guidance, he stressed the importance of retaining the BJP's leadership both at the Centre and in the state to sustain the growth momentum and ensure a “secure and developed Assam.”

He urged the citizens of Assam to once again support the BJP and assist in forming a government under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

“The voice of the people will be essential in continuing the path towards a secure and developed Assam. We seek the people's support to establish the government once more,” he added.

In anticipation of the upcoming Assembly elections, the BJP has ramped up its campaigning efforts throughout Assam, with senior leaders participating in rallies and outreach events in numerous constituencies.

The elections for the 126-member Assam Assembly are set for April 9, with the vote counting scheduled for May 4.

Point of View

The issue of governance models is crucial for effective development. The concept of a 'double-engine' government, as presented by Pabitra Margherita, raises important questions about the efficiency of state and central government collaboration, especially in non-BJP states. The focus on development and infrastructure is vital for any state's growth trajectory.
