Kyiv, March 23 (NationPress) A significant drone offensive was initiated by Russia overnight against Kyiv, targeting several residential structures and resulting in injuries to at least seven individuals, as reported by local officials in the early morning hours of Sunday.
According to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, the Kyiv Independent reported that at least seven individuals sustained injuries during the assault.
One casualty was taken to the hospital, whereas the remaining individuals received on-site medical assistance.
Two residential buildings located in the Dniprovskyi district were hit, as per the authorities.
A fire erupted on the upper levels of one building after debris from a drone struck it, Klitschko stated.
The 20th floor of another apartment structure in the same district was impacted, as noted by Tymur Tkachenko, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration.
Earlier, drone debris impacted a catering establishment in the vicinity.
Fragments of drones also caused damage to two high-rise apartments in the Podilskyi district, igniting fires at both locations, Tkachenko added.
Emergency services were dispatched to the sites of the attacks. Updates regarding the overall number of casualties and damages are still forthcoming.
In other parts of the city, drone wreckage resulted in fires and property damage, as reported by Tkachenko.
A fire was reported in an open area within the Desnianskyi district, while a vehicle in the Shevchenkivsky district suffered damage.
Debris also landed in an industrial sector of the Holosiivskyi district, Klitschko mentioned.
A series of explosions shook the capital throughout the night, as air defense units remained active in the city, according to the report from the Kyiv Independent.
This attack follows less than a week into a partial 30-day ceasefire concerning assaults on energy infrastructure in both Russia and Ukraine. The ceasefire, announced by the Kremlin on March 18 after a conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, has not halted Moscow's aerial bombardments on Ukrainian urban centers.
“Today, the Russians are once again showcasing their ‘commitment to peace’,” Tkachenko remarked.
