Managed by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, this centre acts as a diplomatic instrument to strengthen Indo-French relations, aligning with the commitments made during Prime Minister Modi's discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron in February to enhance cultural hubs across Europe.
EAM Jaishankar arrived in France on March 27 to participate in the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
During this meeting, he stressed the significance of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) in promoting global connectivity amidst rising geopolitical tensions.
He pointed out that the ongoing conflicts in West Asia heighten the necessity for reliable trade routes and secure supply chains.
While addressing the session, EAM Jaishankar highlighted India's growing trade agreements with key global partners, including the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the European Union, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), and the United Kingdom, which significantly enhance the value of IMEC.
Additionally, he acknowledged the increasing interest from international partners in realizing the connectivity initiative. He emphasized the critical need for reforms within the United Nations Security Council while also highlighting the challenges faced by the Global South.
In a recent post on X, he stated, "I shared insights regarding IMEC at the second session of the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting with invited partners. The uncertainties stemming from conflicts in West Asia underscore the necessity for more resilient trade corridors and supply chains."
He further added, "Simultaneously, India's FTAs with the European Union, EFTA members, and the UK have amplified the utility of IMEC."
