Enhanced Security Measures in Siliguri Ahead of Amit Shah's SSB Event

Kolkata, Dec 19 (NationPress) Security has been heightened in Siliguri, situated in the Darjeeling district of northern West Bengal, in preparation for Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s imminent visit to participate in a special event for the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) on Friday, marking the force's Raising Day.
According to the itinerary, Home Minister Shah is anticipated to arrive at Bagdogra Airport near Siliguri after 10 p.m. on Thursday, followed by a road journey to the SSB's frontier headquarters in Siliguri.
After spending the night there, he will take part in the Raising Day event of the SSB at 11 a.m. on Friday.
Following this, the Union Home Minister is also set to conduct a high-level meeting with senior officials of the force.
Sources indicate that the significance of the scheduled meeting is heightened due to the SSB's frontier headquarters being located just a few kilometers from the district’s border with Bangladesh, especially amidst the ongoing political turmoil in Bangladesh, which raises concerns about potential increases in illegal infiltration into India.
The close proximity to international borders has necessitated robust security measures in and around Siliguri since Thursday afternoon, coinciding with the Union Minister’s visit.
Amit Shah is expected to return to New Delhi after the high-level meeting on Friday afternoon, with his departure from Bagdogra Airport scheduled for 3.10 p.m.
BJP state President and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar will accompany the Union Home Minister throughout the visit. Majumdar is also slated to welcome Amit Shah at Bagdogra Airport on Thursday night. However, a BJP state committee member mentioned that the Union Home Minister's busy schedule in Siliguri will likely limit any opportunities for Majumdar to discuss party organizational matters with him.
