Patna, Aug 8 (NationPress) In a horrifying incident, a 12-year-old boy lost his life while his father suffered grave burns after being reportedly set ablaze in their residence at Kachora village, situated in Bihar's Katihar district.

The young victim has been named Sunil Kumar Mandal.

His father, Ram Kalyan Mandal, aged 45, is currently fighting for his life at the burn ward of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Bhagalpur.

As per police reports, both father and son were asleep on the veranda of their home on Thursday when unknown assailants reportedly doused them with petrol and ignited a fire.

Other family members, who were resting inside, rushed out upon hearing their cries for help. Local villagers quickly assembled and managed to extinguish the flames.

The victims were initially taken to the Primary Health Centre in Durgaganj and later referred to Katihar Sadar Hospital.

As their conditions deteriorated, they were transferred to Bhagalpur, where Sunil succumbed to his injuries during medical treatment.

This tragic incident has cast a shadow of grief over the entire village. Family members claim foul play, although the motive remains unknown.

Kadwa SHO Vijay Prakash stated that one individual has been detained for questioning, and the investigation is being pursued from all possible angles.

“We have summoned the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to gather evidence from the crime scene. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and we are awaiting the report for further analysis,” Prakash mentioned.

“We are also awaiting the recovery of the injured party to obtain his statement, which will be crucial in identifying the perpetrators,” he added.

“An FIR for murder and attempted murder has been filed under pertinent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sahita at Kadwa police station, and the investigation is currently in progress. We are gathering statements from the deceased's family to solve this case,” he concluded.
