Agartala, Sep 13 (NationPress) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha remarked on Saturday that forensic odontology, a fundamental aspect of forensic science, plays a crucial role in investigations and the pursuit of justice.
While speaking at the 2nd International Conference on Odontology held at the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of transforming the concepts of forensic odontology from theoretical frameworks into practical applications.
“We communicate, we engage in discussions, yet it is vital to put these ideas into practice. This is paramount, reflecting the core theme of this conference. The discussions are centered on forensic odontology, which is not only intellectually intriguing but also socially and legally essential,” stated Saha, a qualified dental surgeon himself.
He highlighted that the NFSU, recognized as an institution of national significance, is the world's first university dedicated to forensic behavioral science, cyber security, digital forensics, and related disciplines.
“Initially, I had doubts about whether it was indeed the first in the world, but I was informed that it is the unique institution of its kind globally,” he added.
Previously known as Gujarat Forensic Science University, it was established under the guidance of the former Gujarat Chief Minister and current Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
In his address, Saha, who also oversees the Health and Family Welfare department, mentioned that the NFSU has commenced its curriculum in Tripura through its campus.
“I express my gratitude to our Prime Minister and am also very grateful to Home Minister Amit Shah, whose support enabled the initiation of NFSU courses in Tripura,” he noted.
During the conference, Saha urged the Vice-Chancellor of NFSU, Gandhinagar, to introduce a two-year M.Sc. program in Forensic Odontology at NFSU, Tripura, to enhance expertise and opportunities in the Northeast region.
He invited conference attendees to visit Tripura to witness the state's growth. Currently, Tripura boasts three medical colleges with a combined capacity of 400 seats, which is set to increase shortly.
“Tripura stands as a peaceful state within the country, thanks to our Prime Minister and Home Minister. Numerous initiatives have been undertaken for the Northeastern population, who were previously marginalized,” the Chief Minister concluded.
