The individuals, employed in the biochemistry laboratory at Rangaraya Medical College, were arrested after complaints from 50 female students were brought to the college authorities regarding their inappropriate behavior.
During a press briefing on Friday, Kakinada District Collector Sagili Shan Mohan and Superintendent of Police G. Bindu Madhav provided details about the situation after Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed serious concern over the matter.
It was reported that a criminal case has been filed against the suspects following three complaints submitted at two local police stations since Friday morning.
The Collector revealed that the college principal, Vishnu Vardhan, had received an email from a female student on July 9, detailing the harassment incidents.
In total, 50 students reported that four individuals in the biochemistry lab were involved in sexual harassment. The majority of complaints were directed at Kalyan Chakravarthy, who allegedly sent obscene messages and comments via WhatsApp.
The Collector noted that during discussions with students, the names of Jimmy Raju, Gopalakrishna, and Prasad also emerged. All four have been suspended from their positions.
While Kalyan Chakravarthy serves as a lab attendant, the other three are lab technicians. Both the Collector and SP affirmed that strict measures would be implemented against the offenders.
Authorities are also probing similar incidents that have reportedly occurred at the college in the past.
In the meantime, Home Minister V. Sunitha voiced her anger regarding the alleged harassment at the medical college. She contacted the district Collector and SP to inquire about the incident.
The Home Minister instructed that severe action be taken against the accused, emphasizing that such behavior is intolerable.
