Did Gaurav Gogoi Go Silent Digitally for 10 Days in Pakistan?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, Feb 8 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, made serious allegations on Sunday regarding Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi, claiming he remained digitally inactive for a minimum of 10 days during his trip to Pakistan, while the country's Interior Ministry altered the visa permissions for the Congress leader.
In a statement to the media, CM Sarma remarked, “During his 2013 visit to Pakistan, the Interior Ministry modified Gogoi's travel permissions, and he went completely dark on digital platforms. This silence raises numerous questions about his actions during that timeframe.”
The Chief Minister suggested that Gogoi “might have undergone some 'training' sessions” while he spent a decade in Islamabad.
“The individual underwent a profound transformation after those 10 days of silence. In December 2013, Gogoi visited Pakistan, and subsequently, he was elected as a Lok Sabha MP in 2014. Once he joined Parliament, he began to pose sensitive questions concerning national security, which strengthens my suspicion that he may have been influenced by Pakistan's intelligence during that visit,” the CM asserted.
Moreover, CM Sarma pointed out that Tarun Gogoi served as the Chief Minister of Assam until 2016, and after returning from Pakistan, Gaurav Gogoi occupied the Chief Minister’s bungalow, creating a precarious situation.
“A person who discreetly visits Pakistan and resides in the CM’s residence poses a significant risk to the security of the state,” stated the Chief Minister.
CM Sarma further emphasized that the allegations involving Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and Elizabeth Gogoi, Gaurav Gogoi's spouse and Deputy Leader of the Congress in Parliament, are extremely serious and warrant thorough investigation.
The Chief Minister stressed that the association of a sitting Member of Parliament with Pakistan escalates the issue beyond a routine inquiry. “These are serious allegations. When a current MP, who also holds a leadership role in the Congress party, is linked to Pakistan in any capacity, the matter inherently gains substantial importance,” CM Sarma concluded.
