Bhopal, December 17 (NationPress) - On Wednesday, Madhya Pradesh's Governor Mangubhai Patel officially opened a captivating photo exhibition that illustrates the remarkable 70-year evolution and extensive legislative heritage of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
The event was graced by notable figures including Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, and Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, among others.
This exhibition was organized to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly, coinciding with a special one-day session called by the BJP-led state government. While the House session is expected to conclude later today, the exhibition will remain accessible for visitors throughout the week.
Prior to the House discussions, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav remarked that Madhya Pradesh has experienced consistent progress since its inception seven decades ago. "This special session will address several pivotal issues and highlight the accomplishments of the BJP government over the last two years," Yadav stated.
Having recently completed two years in his role on December 13, the Chief Minister is scheduled to deliver a comprehensive report detailing the government's performance. Key accomplishments include the declaration of Madhya Pradesh as Naxal-free on December 11, alongside advancements in urban development, education, healthcare, women's empowerment, industrial policy, tourism, culture, heritage, agriculture, cooperation, animal husbandry, and internal security.
This special session follows just 12 days after the conclusion of the five-day Winter Session on December 5, during which the House approved a second supplementary budget of Rs 13,156 crore amidst vigorous debates.
Earlier that day, Congress legislators, led by Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, protested near the Mahatma Gandhi statue on the Assembly grounds against the Centre’s proposal to rename the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi advocates for Mahatma Gandhi’s principles, yet his government is now stripping Gandhi’s name from this scheme. This is a clear sign of disrespect towards the Father of the Nation, which Congress will not tolerate," Singhar expressed to the media.
In contrast, the BJP defended the Centre’s decision, claiming that the Congress has historically exploited Mahatma Gandhi’s name for political leverage. BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma emphasized that the party is committed to embodying Gandhi’s ideals rather than merely invoking his name.
"While the Congress claims to honor Gandhi, it has fallen short in delivering on its commitments. We genuinely adhere to Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophies and strive to make a tangible impact," Sharma asserted.
