Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Gandhinagar, March 22 (NationPress) The government of Gujarat is set to launch the procurement of gram and rapeseed at minimum support prices (MSP) starting from March 23. Agriculture Minister Jitu Vaghani announced that measures have been organized to assist over 2.96 lakh registered farmers across the state.
This procurement initiative aims to guarantee that farmers are compensated fairly for their harvest. The procedure will be conducted through a network of designated centers, which have been established based on registration data, the area cultivated, and the anticipated yield.
For this season, 165 centers have been designated for gram procurement, alongside 60 centers for rapeseed.
As per the minister's statement, over 2.59 lakh farmers have signed up to sell gram, while more than 37,000 farmers have registered for rapeseed procurement.
He assured that sufficient quantities would be acquired from all registered farmers.
“All preliminary arrangements for the procurement process have been finalised with the Chief Minister’s oversight,” Vaghani stated, emphasizing that comprehensive measures have been implemented statewide to support farmers.
This year, the government has introduced new initiatives to streamline the process and enhance transparency.
For the first time, Aadhaar-enabled biometric or face authentication will be utilized at procurement centers to confirm the identity of farmers, ensuring that only registered beneficiaries can participate in the sale.
In instances where a farmer cannot attend due to unavoidable reasons, a designated nominee will be allowed to complete the transaction on their behalf.
“To manage crowds effectively and maintain order at procurement centers, farmers will receive SMS notifications detailing their specific date and time for bringing in their produce,” officials have stated.
Officials have additionally encouraged farmers to adhere strictly to the scheduled times to facilitate smooth operations.
The procurement initiative is anticipated to take place across various districts, with the state government depending on the registration-based system to regulate arrivals, prevent congestion at centers, and oversee the process effectively.
