Gandhinagar, Feb 18 (NationPress) On Wednesday, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi officially inaugurated and laid the groundwork for an array of police welfare and infrastructure initiatives in Gandhinagar, representing a remarkable investment of Rs 273 crore aimed at enhancing the living standards of police families while fortifying law enforcement capabilities throughout the state.

Sanghavi emphasized that the Gujarat Budget-2026 contains unprecedented allocations for police families, stating, “For the first time in our nation’s history, a state has sanctioned over 20,400 new residential units equipped with comprehensive amenities for police families. The Police Housing Corporation has received a budget of Rs 1,500 crore, showcasing the government’s unwavering commitment to police welfare.”
He also pointed out recent accomplishments of the state police, mentioning, “In merely 90 days, the Gujarat Police have secured convictions against over 45 drug traffickers, highlighting their proactive measures against drug trafficking and organized crime.”
Police Housing State Minister Kamlesh Patel reinforced the link between security and development, stating, “Every state or nation’s progress is built upon the foundation of peace and security. The Gujarat Police motto of ‘Service, Security and Peace’ translates into reality through the relentless efforts of officers, creating a secure environment that attracts global investors to Gujarat.”
Among the projects inaugurated is an urban police station and 36 Type-B residential units in Gandhinagar’s Infocity, developed at a cost of Rs 14.17 crore.
The initiative, spanning 2,876.906 sq.m., includes parking space for 43 vehicles, rainwater harvesting systems, solar rooftops, and a firefighting infrastructure.
At the Sector-27 Police Headquarters, 280 new Type-B housing units for staff are being constructed at a cost of Rs 89.07 crore, featuring amenities such as basement parking, an open gym, a children's play area, solar panels, and two elevators per block.
A canteen and gymnasium covering 1,320 sq.m. were also inaugurated at a cost of Rs 2.23 crore, providing facilities like a milk parlor, vegetable shop, general store, and a state-of-the-art gymnasium hall.
In Bhadkodara, a jail complex valued at Rs 158.58 crore is under construction, consisting of a district jail with a capacity of 560 prisoners, a high-security prison for 404 inmates, and an open jail for 120 prisoners.
Facilities within the complex will include a library, hospital, vocational training center, video courtroom, study center, cultural hall, auditorium, and a cow shed.
The complex will also house 127 residential units for staff. State Police Chief K.L.N. Rao remarked that the projects inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Sanghavi will greatly benefit the welfare of police personnel and their families.
Sanghavi concluded by acknowledging the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Finance Minister Kanu Desai, stating that the Rs 4.08 lakh crore budget presented for the fifth consecutive year reflects a commitment to empowering diverse sections of society, including the police community, and fostering the vision of a developed Gujarat contributing to a developed India.
