Ahmedabad, Feb 9 (NationPress) The Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi has officially launched a series of police initiatives valued at around Rs 202.85 crore in a virtual ceremony on Monday. These initiatives are designed to fortify the state’s security architecture and enhance the welfare and efficiency of law enforcement personnel.
The new projects comprise a state-of-the-art Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) facility located at Chharodi (costing Rs 47.98 crore), an urban police station at Bodakdev (investment of Rs 33.49 crore), police housing and PSI quarters at Amraiwadi Police Lines (totaling Rs 74.62 crore), housing at Kagdapith (valued at Rs 39.68 crore), along with a dog kennel and training office at Saijpur Bogha (costing Rs 5.74 crore), and bungalows for the SRP Group-2 (valued at Rs 1.34 crore).
All facilities are outfitted with modern amenities aimed at bolstering operational readiness and enhancing living conditions for police families.
During his address, Sanghavi stated, “The ATS serves not only as a reactive force to terrorist threats but also stands as the largest bastion of unwavering security and trust for 6.5 crore Gujaratis. This 'silent force' operates around the clock, ensuring that every citizen is safeguarded and that adversaries cannot even dare to act.”
He emphasized the important role of ATS in counter-terrorism operations both nationally and within Gujarat, asserting, “The team’s achievements in identifying online 'terror modules' that radicalize the youth are vital for the state’s future. From dismantling networks in Punjab jails to executing raids on drug operations across over 14 states, including West Bengal, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh, ATS personnel have dedicated months away from their families for operational success.”
Regarding maritime security, Sanghavi remarked, “Protecting a 1,600 km coastline against infiltrators and drug trafficking amidst challenging conditions is no easy task. Our teams have apprehended over 75 Pakistani infiltrators at the border. This new building serves not merely as a structure; it is a center equipped with world-class technical resources that will enhance Gujarat’s security for years to come.”
State Finance, Jail, and Police Housing Minister Kamlesh Patel added, “A resilient Gujarat necessitates a formidable police force and a robust ATS. The peace that prevails in our state, where the new generation has never experienced a ‘curfew’, is entirely attributed to the effectiveness of the Gujarat Police and ATS. There is no tolerance for hooliganism, terrorism, or narcotics in Gujarat.”
State Police Chief K.L.N. Rao affirmed, “ATS has consistently evolved as a specialized unit. With advanced weaponry, training, and personnel, along with the establishment of the Special Operations Group, ATS is thoroughly equipped to tackle emerging threats.”
The inauguration event also showcased modern police armaments and marine commando gear, accompanied by a brief film highlighting the operations and accomplishments of the ATS.
Numerous senior officials, including Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G.S. Malik, municipal leaders, MLAs, and police family members were present at the ceremony.
