Ahmedabad, Sep 1 (NationPress) This year, Gujarat has achieved an impressive 90 percent of its seasonal rainfall as of now. Official records indicate that the state has accumulated an average of 31.5 inches of rain this season.
Analyzing the rainfall distribution, June emerged as the month with the most significant precipitation, averaging 12 inches, followed by 10 inches in July and 9.5 inches in August.
Currently, 48 talukas have recorded over 40 inches of rainfall, while 10 districts have surpassed the seasonal target of 100 percent. Notably, South Gujarat is leading with a remarkable 55 inches of rainfall, representing 94 percent of the seasonal average.
Other areas are also experiencing substantial rainfall, with East-Central Gujarat receiving 28 inches, North Gujarat 27 inches, Saurashtra 25 inches, and Kutch 16 inches. In most regions, rainfall has surpassed 85 percent of the seasonal target. At the district level, Valsad leads with 84 inches, followed by Dang with 72 inches and Navsari with 66 inches.
The lowest average rainfall is reported in Patan at 16 inches. Among the talukas, Kaprada in Valsad recorded an astonishing 110 inches, Umaragaon in Surat 96.25 inches, and Khergam in Navsari 90 inches. Overall, 48 talukas have received over 40 inches of rainfall, 140 talukas between 20-40 inches, and 61 talukas between 10-20 inches. There are two talukas still at the lower end, recording just 5-10 inches of rain.
In contrast, last year, Gujarat had recorded 38.65 inches of rainfall by the end of August, which was 111 percent of the seasonal average.
This year’s rainfall has been slower, particularly in August, which saw only 9.5 inches compared to last year’s 17.4 inches.
Districts that have already exceeded the 100 percent seasonal mark include Sabarkantha and Banaskantha in North Gujarat, Mahisagar, Kheda, and Anand in Central-East Gujarat, Porbandar, Botad, Bhavnagar in Saurashtra, along with Tapi and Surat in South Gujarat.
