Ahmedabad, Aug 13 (NationPress) The Gujarat Police have made a significant advancement in their underwater search and surveillance operations by acquiring cutting-edge Deep Tracker remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).
These innovative, portable devices can submerge to depths of 200 meters and handle weights of up to 100 kg, transforming evidence retrieval and maritime operations for the police force.
Fitted with ultra-high-definition 4K cameras, the Deep Tracker ROVs deliver exceptional video quality even in murky waters, while sophisticated multi-beam SONAR technology allows for accurate navigation and functioning in difficult underwater settings.
Each unit also boasts a 360-degree rotating grabber arm capable of lifting heavy items, complemented by powerful 2000 lumen lights for nocturnal missions. The Gujarat Police are leveraging technology to bolster state security and operational effectiveness.
Following the guidance of Director General of Police Vikas Sahay, two vehicles were acquired at a price of Rs 2.8 crore, with one assigned to Vadodara and the other to Rajkot as part of a pilot initiative.
These Deep Tracker ROVs are engineered to support a variety of underwater operations, including evidence search and recovery, underwater surveillance, crime scene analysis, and post-crime video documentation—capabilities that greatly enhance the police’s operational arsenal.
The utility of this technology was recently showcased during rescue efforts following a serious incident at Gamira Bridge near Padra in the Vadodara district. In spite of challenging and murky water conditions, a specially trained police team led by Vadodara Rural SP Rohan Anand utilized the Deep Tracker ROV to identify submerged vehicles and crucial evidence.
Thanks to the vehicle’s advanced camera and grabber arm, the team successfully retrieved a motorcycle and vital components from the riverbed, highlighting the ROV’s significance not only in investigations but also in search and rescue missions.
Officers operating these vehicles have undergone rigorous three-day training sessions to ensure competence and effective use in real-world scenarios.
