Did Gujarat Really Achieve 88% Farmer Registration on PM-Kisan Portal?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Gandhinagar, Feb 4 (NationPress) Gujarat has achieved an impressive 88 percent completion rate of farmer registrations on the PM-Kisan portal, securing the fourth position nationally, as reported by officials on Wednesday.
After the state cabinet meeting, Minister Jitu Vaghani addressed the media, highlighting that the registration initiative is part of the Central Government’s Digital Agri Stack project, which has made significant strides in the state.
“As part of the farmer registration program, 88 percent of farmers' KYC, land records, and registrations on the PM-Kisan portal have been finalized by the state government,” he stated.
According to the minister, approximately 59 lakh beneficiaries have successfully registered on the Farmer Registry portal.
These statistics have been officially acknowledged by the central government, leading to a financial allocation of Rs. 206 crore to the state under Special Central Assistance.
“Completing these registrations will enable farmers to access benefits associated with the PM-Kisan scheme and help align their land records with national digital frameworks,” Vaghani noted.
In addition to the registration efforts, the state cabinet approved measures in the revenue sector aimed at regularizing unauthorized land possession, which is anticipated to benefit farmers and landholders throughout Gujarat.
“The cabinet meeting ratified the decisions made in the revenue sector under the guidance of the Chief Minister,” Vaghani explained.
He further elaborated that the policy allows for the regularization of land that has been regranted or is eligible for regrant yet remains unformally regularized.
Under the new regulations, landholders have the opportunity to regularize such land by paying 20 percent of the current possession value. “This decision will assist those who hold land that has been regranted but for which possession fees remain unpaid, those eligible for regrant but not yet regranted, and the heirs of such land,” Vaghani added.
He also mentioned that individuals possessing land that has been mutated but is currently under someone else’s possession will benefit from this decision. “Citizens of the state will be empowered to obtain legal ownership rights to their land,” he stated.
Officials indicated that the dual emphasis on digital registration and land regularization is part of Gujarat’s comprehensive strategy to enhance agricultural support systems and improve farmers' access to government services.
