Gurugram, May 6 (NationPress) The Gurugram Police successfully returned 609 mobile devices that were either lost or stolen between January and April 30 this year back to their rightful owners on Tuesday, according to police reports. These mobile phones are estimated to be worth approximately Rs 1.52 crore.
Dr. Arpit Jain, DCP (headquarters), stated, "Our cyber cell teams across various zones have diligently tracked and recovered these 609 handsets. Among them are several high-end mobile phones that had been lost or stolen from different locations throughout the city."
To alleviate the distress faced by mobile users due to the loss of their devices, the Gurugram Police Commissioner instructed officers to promptly file a non-cognizable offence report in such instances, ensuring that the phones are returned to their owners with the assistance of technical support.
"Following the Commissioner's directives, Gurugram Police has been effectively utilizing the CEIR (Central-Equipment-Identity-Register) portal and advanced police technology to locate and recover lost mobile devices," he added. "For many individuals, mobile phones hold significant value beyond their monetary worth, as they contain vital data including contacts, passwords, financial details, and personal information. Thus, tracing lost or stolen phones has become a top priority for the police."
The CEIR portal, established by the Department of Telecommunications, is designed to help citizens manage and track their mobile devices using the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers. In the event of a lost or stolen phone, individuals can block the IMEI by reporting the incident at their local police station and subsequently using the CEIR portal (www.ceir.gov.in).
The Gurugram Police urges the public to report any lost mobile phones via www.ceir.gov.in. This ensures that lost devices can be traced and returned. The police remain committed to serving, protecting, and supporting the community, promptly filing non-cognizable offence reports and facilitating the return of lost phones with the aid of technical resources," the DCP explained.
