J&K Cyber Police Recovers More Than Rs 11 Lakh from Online Scams

Srinagar, Dec 21 (NationPress) The J&K Cyber Police reported on Saturday that it has successfully retrieved more than Rs 11 lakh that was fraudulently taken from individuals in the Kulgam district.

A statement from the police indicated that the Cyber Police managed to recover Rs 11,09,565 that was lost by citizens due to online financial scams occurring in Kulgam.

"Throughout this year, numerous complaints and reports have been submitted by the local populace in Kulgam regarding lost or stolen mobile devices to the Cyber Cell of J&K Police. Responding to these concerns, a specialized team from Cyber Cell Kulgam, under the guidance of DySP Hqrs Kulgam, has successfully retrieved 30 smartphones from various locations, which were either misplaced or taken unlawfully. Each of these devices has been returned to their rightful owners after fulfilling all legal requirements," the police statement elaborated.

Furthermore, the Cyber Cell Kulgam has resolved a significant number of online fraud cases, recovering a total of Rs 11,09,565 which has been restored to the victims' accounts following the completion of all necessary legal formalities. Additionally, an amount of Rs 21,88,715 has been temporarily withheld due to the receipt of multiple complaints, as mentioned in the statement.

The Cyber Cell urged the public to exercise caution while using their mobile devices and other electronic gadgets to protect themselves from cyber frauds and crimes. Individuals who fall victim to cyber scams should promptly file a report through the online portal cybercrime.gov.in and contact the Cyber Cell Kulgam without delay.

"Moreover, citizens are advised to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from cyber frauds and crimes. It is also recommended to limit the amount of personal information shared on social media and to refrain from sharing Aadhaar, PAN card, or any finance-related OTP with others," the police statement cautioned.

The J&K Police has initiated a robust anti-terror campaign aimed at targeting terrorists, their over-ground associates (OGWs), sympathizers, drug traffickers, and individuals involved in cyber crimes.
