Chandigarh, Jan 29 (NationPress) The Haryana government has initiated a plan to offer affordable housing to the urban poor and middle-class families through the rollout of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0).
This initiative by the Central government seeks to deliver financial assistance aimed at ensuring affordable housing for urban populations over the next five years.
Following the vision of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the Haryana government is making strides to guarantee the effective execution of PMAY-U 2.0, as noted in an official announcement.
On Wednesday, Chief Secretary Vivek Joshi led the 17th meeting of the state-level sanctioning and monitoring committee for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban and the inaugural meeting for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0.
Joshi highlighted the necessity to address flaws in fund distribution and instructed officials to implement an OTP-based verification system to curb financial irregularities.
He also requested a comprehensive sample survey to validate the authenticity of beneficiaries and ensure that banks facilitate loan disbursements smoothly.
"The advantages of this program must reach the underprivileged without any leakage,” a statement attributed to the Chief Secretary emphasized, stressing the importance of stringent monitoring and accountability throughout the implementation phase.
The meeting revealed that 15,256 applicants have been allocated one marla plots for building 'pucca' houses under the Mukhya Mantri Shehri Awas Yojana, and financial assistance under the Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC) segment of PMAY-U 2.0 will be extended to these beneficiaries.
PMAY-U 2.0 adopts a comprehensive strategy to tackle the housing shortfall, covering both construction and purchasing avenues.
The scheme is designed for economically weaker sections, lower-income groups, and middle-income households living in urban settings.
The Department of Housing For All has been appointed as the state-level nodal agency, facilitating the administrative framework.
Importantly, the state has set up both a state-level appraisal committee and a state-level sanctioning and monitoring committee to supervise project approvals and implementation.
