Sukma, Oct 11 (NationPress) The Jal Jeevan Mission has initiated a significant change in Polampalli village located in Sukma District, Chhattisgarh, by successfully providing tap water connections to all households. This project guarantees that residents now have access to clean and safe drinking water, which greatly enhances their quality of life.
Villagers of Polampalli, who previously faced severe water shortages during both the rainy and summer months, now enjoy a steady supply of tap water through the Jal Jeevan Mission. This dependable access has effectively addressed ongoing water scarcity challenges.
The program has also alleviated burdens on women and the elderly who once had to travel long distances to collect water, often enduring physical strain. With tap water now accessible right at home, their daily struggles have diminished significantly.
Advantages of Jal Jeevan Mission:
The availability of clean drinking water has resulted in improved health for the villagers. The decline in waterborne diseases directly correlates with the provision of safe water. Moreover, having tap water at home has elevated their overall quality of life.
Economically, the villagers save both time and financial resources, as they no longer have to source water from faraway locations. The time saved can now be redirected towards more productive endeavors.
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15, 2019, the Jal Jeevan Mission aims to supply clean drinking water to every rural household across India. As of February 1, 2025, the mission has successfully connected over 15.44 crore rural households to tap water, representing nearly 79.74 percent of all rural households. This marks a significant rise from the 3.23 crore (17 percent) connections at the mission's inception.
The mission also aims to relieve mothers and sisters from the traditional burden of water collection, thereby enhancing their health, education, and socio-economic conditions. It focuses on sustainability through water conservation, rainwater harvesting, and greywater management.
