Haryana CM Critiques Opposition's Protest at Vidhan Sabha
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, Feb 24 (NationPress) Haryana's Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini stated on Tuesday that while democracy ensures each person has the right to protest and voice their objections against the government, the Opposition's choice to hold a demonstration at the primary entrance of the Vidhan Sabha was inappropriate.
Referring to the Congress protest outside the Assembly's main gate earlier that day, the Chief Minister labeled the demonstration as improper.
He reiterated that the right to dissent is a fundamental aspect of democracy, but it should be expressed in a manner that does not disrupt the decorum and operations of the legislature.
In a pointed comment towards the Opposition, CM Saini suggested that if they needed a venue to express their views, a designated area had already been established in Sector 25, Chandigarh, for protests. He encouraged them to go there for a peaceful demonstration, assuring that there would be no restrictions.
“If there are any concerns, they can protest at the designated area for a couple of hours; there will be no hindrance,” he mentioned.
Highlighting the importance of institutional responsibility, the Chief Minister emphasized that it is the Speaker's duty to uphold the dignity of the House, as the Speaker is the custodian of the Assembly.
He asserted that the government stands firmly behind every decision made by the Speaker in this regard.
CM Saini also expressed his appreciation for the Speaker, noting that he has ensured all members are included in maintaining the traditions of the House.
The Speaker, he stated, has never shown favoritism towards any member.
Regardless of party allegiance, and even when there may have been perceptions of minor discrepancies at times, the Opposition has received ample time to convey their viewpoints, and the Chair has consistently displayed impartiality.
