Haryana CM Critiques Congress for 'Headline Politics' in Budget Discussion
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, March 17 (NationPress) Haryana's Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini, fiercely criticized the Congress party on Tuesday, accusing them of engaging in ‘headline politics’ and making unfounded claims about the Budget just to attract media attention.
While responding to the state Budget discussions during the Vidhan Sabha Assembly session, he stated that the Opposition fails to recognize the rapid development in the state and is interpreting the Budget through a skewed perspective.
The Chief Minister was addressing the Budget Estimates for the year 2026-27 during the Budget session.
In a pointed critique of the Congress, he remarked that the accusations made by the Congress on the streets are merely echoed within the Assembly. He lamented the fact that rather than engaging in constructive debate, the Congress prefers to walk out repeatedly. He emphasized that the Opposition has not seriously analyzed the Budget or understood the developmental provisions made, rendering them incapable of meaningful discussions on the state's challenges. Such behavior underscores the Opposition's lack of seriousness, while the government remains dedicated to resolving public issues with transparency and accountability.
In a strong statement, the Chief Minister asserted that the Opposition lacks substantive issues to discuss and resorts to baseless criticism. He expressed concern that the 2.8 crore residents of Haryana look to this esteemed House with hope, but the Opposition's irresponsible actions are evident. Instead of offering constructive suggestions, the Opposition is focused on spreading misinformation and exiting the House.
CM Saini further commented on the Congress's role, labeling it troubling, as the Opposition appears to be merely present for the sake of opposition, propagating lies. He noted that while some members contributed valuable and constructive suggestions during the discussion, others opted to criticize without any factual basis.
The Chief Minister pointed out that it seemed some members did not listen to the Budget speech delivered on March 2 nor took the time to review it later, simply echoing the same street-level allegations within the House.
Continuing his critique, he remarked that while the Opposition might feel compelled to adopt an adversarial stance against the government, it would have been preferable for them to provide constructive suggestions in the interest of the public.
In response to the Opposition's accusations regarding the Rajya Sabha elections, the Chief Minister stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party had successfully elected its candidate, Sanjay Bhatia, to the Rajya Sabha.
He reiterated that in a democracy, every individual has the right to contest elections, and supporting an Independent candidate is within the framework of democratic principles. He questioned the Opposition, asking, “If they had objections, why didn’t they field their own candidate?” adding that the Independent candidate had sought their support, which they had provided.
