Haryana Delegation Sets Off for COP-16 Global Conference

Gurugram, Dec 1 (NationPress) A delegation from Haryana, spearheaded by the state’s Environment, Forest, and Wildlife Minister, Rao Narbir Singh, left on Sunday to take part in the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) – COP-16, occurring in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from December 2 to 13.
The group includes the Additional Chief Secretary of the Environment, Forest, and Wildlife Department, Anand Mohan Sharan; Chairman of the Haryana State Biodiversity Board, Randeep Singh Jauhar; Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Secretary of the Haryana State Biodiversity Board, Vivek Saxena; and Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Dr. T.P. Singh.
This event will serve as a significant platform for Green Zone enterprises, scientists, financial institutions, NGOs, and affected communities to collaborate and develop sustainable solutions for land restoration and drought management.
The COP-16 conference, planned for December 2-13, 2024, is anticipated to attract numerous countries worldwide. Haryana's Cabinet Minister, Rao Narbir Singh, will represent the state at this prestigious event.
Before departure, the minister remarked that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is undertaking historic initiatives to combat climate change as part of his vision for a developed India by 2047.
He stressed that developed nations should extend technical and financial support to developing countries to enhance the effectiveness of the battle against climate change.
He pointed out that initiatives like the National Solar Mission and Jal Jeevan Mission, launched under the Prime Minister's leadership, are advancing significantly.
He reaffirmed that India is fully dedicated to achieving the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
The Haryana minister characterized the conference as a prime opportunity for global cooperation and knowledge sharing.
He concluded by stating that the challenge of climate change cannot be tackled independently and necessitates the collective efforts of all nations.
