Mandi, Dec 11 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, addressed the audience at the Jan Sankalp Sammelan held on Thursday, where he pointed out the significant challenges encountered by the state government over the past three years due to economic issues, political strife, and natural disasters, and how they have faced these issues head-on.
The Chief Minister remarked that the former BJP government burdened the state with a debt of Rs 75,000 crore due to their extravagant spending and poor financial management.
According to Sukhu, the current government has had to take loans just to manage this existing liability.
He also mentioned that the responsibility for paying employee arrears, totaling Rs 10,000 crore, was unfairly passed on to the present administration.
Furthermore, he highlighted that the previous government sold off 4,500 bighas of land for a mere Rs 1.12 crore under a dubious package devoid of registry.
“Our (Congress-led) government is dedicated to protecting the state's resources and the interests of its citizens... we will not allow the rights of the people of Himachal Pradesh to be compromised. Important decisions have been made to ensure that Himachal Pradesh becomes self-sufficient and prosperous while firmly asserting our claims with the Centre and neighboring states,” he stated.
The Chief Minister added that in the Wildflower Hall case, the state achieved a legal win, securing an annual revenue of Rs 20 crore.
Thanks to the government's efforts, the royalty from the Karchham-Wangtoo project has increased from 12 to 18 percent, promising an additional revenue of Rs 150 crore every year.
While the former BJP government managed to earn just Rs 450 crore from renewing liquor vends over four years, CM Sukhu proudly announced that their (Congress) government achieved the same amount in merely one year through a revamped excise policy.
The Chief Minister criticized the BJP for resorting to misleading tactics and personal jabs.
“Even my choice of driving an Alto car has been subjected to trivial criticism. Nevertheless, our government’s achievements will pave the way for our return to power in 2027, equipped with a 52-seater Volvo,” he remarked.
He emphasized that true public servants do not fear anyone, and by 2027, Himachal Pradesh would reach a state of self-reliance.
CM Sukhu highlighted that the welfare of the people is the foremost priority for the current Congress government.
“Right after taking office, our government launched the Mukhyamantri Sukh-Ashray Yojana, which through legislation, has legally adopted orphaned children as 'Children of the State'. This initiative stems from a place of compassion, not political promises,” he stated.
He also underscored the government's extensive measures to assist those affected by recent natural calamities.
The Chief Minister clarified that the decision to reinstate the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) is not politically driven but aimed at ensuring social security for employees and their families.
Reaffirming the Congress' commitment to public service and national integrity, he noted the party's historical sacrifices for the nation's unity.
He called on the citizens to back the state government's initiatives aimed at achieving self-reliance within the next two years.
“Together, we can reshape the future and reputation of Himachal Pradesh,” he concluded.
