Hyderabad, August 31 (NationPress) - The Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, announced on Sunday that the Hyderabad Liberation Day will be celebrated with great enthusiasm on September 17.
In a response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 'Mann Ki Baat' broadcast, in which he acknowledged the bravery of the armed forces during Operation Polo that liberated the former Hyderabad State, both Union Minister Bandi Sanjay and Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy shared their thoughts on the social media platform X.
Bandi Sanjay emphasized that the Hyderabad State, which had been under the oppressive rule of the Nizam, was integrated into India by the 'Iron Man' Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in a remarkably brief period during Operation Polo.
“We will celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day in a grand style this September. It's essential to honor the heroes who participated in Operation Polo,” he stated.
Union Minister Kishan Reddy echoed this sentiment, noting that the Prime Minister paid tribute to the sacrifices made by the people of Hyderabad and praised Operation Polo led by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, which facilitated the liberation of Hyderabad from the Nizam's repressive regime.
“The Prime Minister also highlighted that Hyderabad had to wait until September 17, 1948, for its own Independence Day, echoing the sentiments of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel,” he remarked.

“As you know, while India celebrated Independence in August 1947, Hyderabad was facing a very different reality. The atrocities committed by the Nizam and the Razakars were escalating. Even the act of hoisting the Tricolour or uttering 'Vande Mataram' could result in death. The vulnerable, including women and the poor, were severely oppressed,” he added.
“During this critical time, Babasaheb Ambedkar warned that the situation was worsening. Ultimately, Sardar Patel took decisive action. He organized the government to execute Operation Polo, successfully liberating Hyderabad from the Nizam’s oppression and integrating it into India in record time. The entire nation celebrated this monumental success,” he concluded.
The Union government declared last year that September 17 would be observed annually as Hyderabad Liberation Day.
