Key Takeaways
Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh), Feb 24 (NationPress) A professor from the Central University of Himachal Pradesh referred to the recent India AI Summit in the national capital as a pivotal moment for the nation, indicating India's escalating prominence in advanced technology as global observers take note of its developments.
In an interview with IANS, Professor Inder Singh Thakur emphasized that the summit at Bharat Mandapam highlighted India's growing proficiency in artificial intelligence across multiple fields.
"The AI Summit in Delhi represented a crucial milestone for India, with the world closely monitoring the nation’s technological advancements. We see AI being integrated into nearly every sector, marking a significant leap forward for India," he stated, commending the achievements of "140 crore Indians."
He pointed out that the capital has increasingly become a hub for major international events, underlining India’s enhancing diplomatic and technological significance globally.
Addressing the protest organized by the Indian Youth Congress during the summit, Thakur remarked that dissent is an integral aspect of democracy, but it should be conducted responsibly.
"If one feels the necessity to protest, it is their right to voice concerns. India has always been a land that respects differing opinions. This is the birthplace of Buddha, a realm of peace. While we value protests, they should be carried out in a respectful manner and within appropriate boundaries," he explained.
He underscored the importance of dialogue and debate over confrontation for national progress. "When discussions occur without feelings of conflict or revenge, we can constructively envision the future of our country. Especially at an international event with global leaders, the choice of the protest venue was not suitable," he added.
Additionally, several notable academics issued a joint statement recognizing the India AI Impact Summit as a historic achievement that underscores India’s emergence as a sovereign power in AI. They deemed the protest as "inappropriate," arguing that the global stage was intended to spotlight the nation’s technological prowess and innovation.
The statement highlighted the presentation of 644 AI technologies, participation from global CEOs, and investment commitments reportedly totaling $250 billion, along with India's third position in the Global AI Vibrancy Index as evidence of the country’s swift progress.
Stressing the need for national unity, the signatories emphasized that maintaining India’s credibility in advanced technology sectors is vital as the country positions itself as a significant global hub for artificial intelligence.
