Ottawa, Dec 5 (NationPress) The Indian High Commissioner to Canada, Dinesh K. Patnaik, engaged in talks with Canadian Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree to enhance cooperation in security and law enforcement between the two nations.
This meeting signifies a notable step in the ongoing improvement of bilateral relations between India and Canada.
“It was a privilege to meet with Minister Gary Anandasangaree. We shared insights on our collective goals to bolster security and law enforcement collaboration between our nations. We also looked into innovative opportunities for partnership and methods to reinforce our current engagement platforms,” quoted Patnaik from the Indian High Commission in Ottawa.
Earlier in the week, Patnaik visited the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia to further strengthen the partnership.
During his visit, he met various leaders in British Columbia, including Raj Chouhan, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Ravi Parmar, Minister of Forests, and Sunita Dhir, Parliamentary Secretary.
Patnaik also conversed with Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development, and Innovation, and Jagrup Brar, Minister of State for Mining and Critical Minerals in British Columbia.
The discussions focused on boosting mutual investments in mining, critical minerals, and the energy sector, while also advancing cooperation in quantum technologies, life sciences, and gold exports between India and Canada.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Indian High Commission in Ottawa noted that Patnaik, accompanied by his wife Poonam Patnaik, visited Treaty 7 land, marking the first visit by an Indian High Commissioner to the area.
This groundbreaking visit on November 24 initiated a new chapter in the relationship between Indigenous Nations in Canada and India.
The Indian High Commission reported that the meeting delved into shared histories, culture, and heritage, as well as potential collaborative opportunities between the Indigenous populations of Canada and communities throughout India.
“The High Commissioner expressed the profound respect and affection that the people of India hold for Indigenous Nations. He reminisced about how Prime Minister Narendra Modi was deeply touched by the hospitality and cultural wealth of Treaty 7 peoples during his engagement with Indigenous Chiefs in Kananaskis in June 2025,” stated the Indian High Commission.
