How Did the Egyptian Senate Show Support for India's Anti-Terrorism Efforts?

Cairo, June 2 (NationPress) A high-level, multi-party delegation from India, led by Supriya Sule of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SP), engaged in significant discussions with esteemed members of the Egyptian Senate, articulating India's staunch and principled stance against terrorism.

The delegation interacted with Senator Hossam Al-Khouly of the Mostaqbal Watan Party, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Hazem Omar, and other committee chairpersons and members. The Senate expressed its solidarity with India, reiterating the value of the robust strategic partnership between India and Egypt.

The delegates conveyed India's resolute message of zero tolerance towards terrorism, part of India's diplomatic initiative known as Operation Sindoor, upon their arrival in the Middle Eastern nation, welcomed by Indian Ambassador to Egypt Suresh Reddy.

This delegation is scheduled for an intensive itinerary in Egypt, which includes ministerial meetings, parliamentary dialogues, and interactions with think tanks, media, and the Indian community.

Among the all-party delegates, Sule is joined by prominent BJP leaders Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Anurag Thakur, and V. Muraleedharan, along with Congress representatives Manish Tewari and Anand Sharma, Telugu Desam Party’s Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, Aam Aadmi Party’s Vikramjeet Singh Sawhney, and former diplomat Syed Akbaruddin.

The delegation plans to engage in discussions with the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs (ECFA) and meet with Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt. Additionally, they will converse with Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the League of Arab States, as stated by the Indian Embassy in Cairo.

Events on the agenda include a floral tribute at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi in El-Horreya Park, a visit to the Heliopolis War Memorial, and meetings with Indian community members, policymakers, senior editors, scholars, and strategic thinkers. This visit underscores India’s dedication to enhancing cooperation with Egypt and the Arab world to combat terrorism and promote shared global values.

On the previous Sunday evening, the delegation concluded a productive visit to Ethiopia, where they engaged in meaningful discussions with Ethiopian leaders, media, academia, civil society, think tanks, and the Indian community.

The delegation unifiedly expressed India's zero-tolerance policy against cross-border terrorism and recounted developments following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22. They detailed that Operation Sindoor, executed in response, was precise, targeted, and proportionate, showcasing India's commitment to combating terrorism without escalating conflicts.

“The delegation stressed the urgent need to identify and effectively address all forms of terrorism and its perpetrators, including those who provide moral support. In alignment with this, India is dismantling the cross-border terrorism infrastructure that has been employed against it for decades,” stated the Indian Embassy in Addis Ababa.

“The Ethiopian leadership reaffirmed its own zero-tolerance stance against terrorism and highlighted the necessity of condemning such acts. The Indian delegation appreciated the solidarity extended by Ethiopian leaders following the Pahalgam attack,” it added.

While addressing the Indian community in Ethiopia, delegation members praised them for embodying values of tolerance, pluralism, and unity, resisting divisive forces aimed at undermining India’s social fabric. Numerous Ethiopian nationals who studied in India and now hold significant positions in public life expressed their solidarity with India and supported counter-terrorism initiatives.

The visit of the Indian delegation to Egypt signifies a continuation of India's strategic outreach to secure global support against cross-border terrorism originating from Pakistan.
